Getting married in the winter? Or are you looking to shoot your engagements before spring blossoms have come? Just because winter has taken those vibrant greens away doesn't mean your picture will lack the same amout of color. Passionate colors can still be found in the winter time. I love to shoot amung trees even when they have lost a lot of their leaves, but often in the winter I can still find a few covered in berries. If the clouds take a day to disperse between snowstorms and you are the type of couple that are up for bearing the cold to capture an awesome shot then use the color of the sunset to bring that passionate life into your pictures:) But for the most part that is a lot easier to do in the summer time. The Great Salt Lake makes an awesome location for engagement pictures. But be sure to bring a change of shoes and bug repellent as needed!

I love shooting engagement pictures in down town Salt Lake City. There is so much variety, color, and life in general going on. You can find anything from contemporary backgrounds, vintage backgrounds, urban grunge backgrounds to classical and traditional surroundings. If you are looking for a very specific look then let me know. Some styles might require a little more planning than others. For example, a vintage look may take us to several different spots.

Ok. So we have already scheduled the engagements, picked a fun location that is perfect for the two of you and now you are narrowing down the particulars.

Here is a list of some "helpers" of what to wear or not to wear for engagement pictures.

1. Try to stay away from busy patterns.

Busy prints, small striped clothing, and clothing with logos and prints should all be avoided.

2. Sold colors usually work best

If we are shooting your picture in the winter, and at a location with little color then making the two of you be the color works really well.

3. Dark Colors help bring out certain features

Don't be scared away from using color when I say this:) Dark colors do help bring out your features, eyes, hair etc. Plus if you are at all concerned about your weight then dark colors always help in our favor.

4. Don't be two matchy matchy.

In my opinion this take on wearing identical white shirts and matching blues jeans it creates a little cheezy of a look. Or in other words it looks like you're trying too hard. The colors the two of you wear should coordinate together rather than all be the same.

5. If you're a guy and are wearing black shoes I recommend having black socks. (in most cases anyway)

Although white socks might easily fly under the radar for day to day attire with your black leather shoes, when we shoot your engagement pictures I might have you sit in sometimes uncommon places (on the ground against a wall etc). This is one of those cases that the details count:)
