I always love taking engagement pictures in the city. There is simply just so much variety there with different textures, colors and backgrounds. Even in a healthy city like Salt Lake City you can find anything from urban grunge, like alleyways and graffitti, to comtemporary designs involving clean glass and metal, to colorful stuccos and shopping districts where people everywhere wander about. I personally love to find vintage areas that can be perfect for some fun retro engagements. Old warehouses, with the painted logos fading off the side is just one cool example.

What are your wedding colors? Think about this before your engagement photography pictures get taken. Talk to your photographer about the style and look that you want. For example, if a deep blue is one of your wedding colors, then incorporating that into the session, whether by location or clothing, you can then create a coherent look when you display them at the reception. Everything will look planned and look like it belongs on display.

Looking to capture your engagement photography during the winter? Worried about the wet weather, the snow falling and your nose turning red? Talk to your photographer about indoor locations. Inside a barn, getting hot cholate at a local cafe, inside a book store, in parking garage, inside your own house, at the family cabin. These are all non-traditional ideas that are great for traiditional and photojounalistic photography in the winter months.

What to wear for your high school senior portait session.
Ten Tips:
1. Don't be too matchy matchy
If you have a black shirt, try grey or blue jeans instead of black
2. Be bright but not too white!
Wear the colors that fit you best, bit be careful not to be too bright. For example, a bright orange shirt on a hot sunny day will bounce that same color up onto your face. Color always makes a photo really pop! If you do want to wear white, then add a little color to it, such as a blue tank top under a white shirt. If bright colors aren't really your thing, then bring down the hues and instead accent the simple color with a few accessories such as silver earrings and bracelets.
3. Think temperature.
If you are trying to fake how warm you really are when it is chilly out, then come prepared for the in between moments. Bring an overcoat, even if it won't be in the shots. If you do want to wear a coat, then have some fun with hats and scarves to brighten it up. These items can also make for a fun prop to use to play with...
4. Be you!
When sorting through your clothes deciding what to wear, and your friends are adding on their own opions, don't let you own personal style disappear! Don't be afraid to bring along those ratty retro shoes you love for a few shots, or your favorite pair of jeans. What about that funky book bag made of wool that has seen it's day. If it is a part of you and would go with the shoot that bring it along!
5. Options, options, options
Now don't get too excited when I say this... but if you really can't narrow down if this scarf would look good with that hat, and if that dress is a bit too busy... bring it along and I can help you decide what works in the beginning of the shoot. Narrow it down to about 5 outfits with items that can easily added or taken away.
6. Share your story
Sometimes this applies to just certain props. But can often be applied through your attire too. Do you have a sports outfit you want to wear for a few shots, or a varsity swim team jacket... Maybe your in a band and you like to rock a fun outfit for that... Have a prom or homecoming dress you'd like to test out and pose in again before it hides away in the closet?
7. Variety - Formal and Casual Wear
We've already talked over some fun ideas, but don't forget that mom and dad may want that formal shot as well. So don't forget to bring a long a formal outfit. A dress/ skirt or slacks and a nice shirt or blouse.
8. Hair and Jewlery
I would recommend leaving your hair down for most people. Hair can bring it's own unique personality to the table. If you have a lot of hair and just don't want to let it swish about, that consider somthing loose, like a braid along the front and ending on the side of your head. If the session should take place on a windy day and you want to leave your hair down, then bring a barrette or hairtie just in case. Fun rings, bracelets, head bands, earring etc add the perfect assortment of glitze and glam, but be careful that your selections do not destract too much from you!
9. Stripes and patterns
Stripes are ok, if they aren't too small. Same goes for patterns. With patterns and stripes, usually the more contrasted they are, the more distracting they can be. When pairing clothing items together, be careful not to have too many fancy patterns go on.
10. A happy healthy smile
Don't forget to take care of your self leading up to the session. Drink plenty of water, stay away from the salts and sugars. Eat plenty of good fruits and get plenty of sleep. Doing these things can really make a difference from how you will look. While there are times that photoshop can help save the day with that one disaster zit that decided to say hello the morning of, it is best to have the best from the start:)

Senior pictures are a unique kind of portraiture that are a great way to express you! From the location, to the outfits, and even if you decide to bring a few things along. Do you play an instrument? Are you a shoe girl? Do you love to skateboard or dance? Show off a little of your talent for a portion of your session. Choose a location, or talk to your photographer to get some ideas of locations that would best fit you! Are you loud, fashionable, friendly and fun. Then let bold city colors play a part of your session. Or perhaps your friends describe you as being sweet, giggly, gentle, beautiful, and perhaps a little shy... then perhaps your look might be a little more organic... open wheat fields, flowers, etc.

Salt Lake City Portrait Photographers
Effervescent Media Works specializes in on location portrait photography in Salt Lake Valley. We do however have a portable studio to use for newborns and child portraiture. For these sessions you will have two options, first, come to Rebecca's home, or second, we come to you. Most in home newborn photography is not done with a studio set up but rather we use your home in creative ways with the use of natual light. This could mean using a basket, blanket and the dining room table near a window, even a cute drawer in the bedroom for the baby to be propped out of with a through blanket.
We also specialize in headshots for modeling, commercial/ business use, acting ect. All our images are posted fully edited and retouched in color and black and white. By request we will also add your name at the lower corner of the headshot as desired for auditions etc.
High School Senior Pictures is another one of our specialities. Our senior portraits are unique, edgy, stylish, vibrant and fun. There are two ways we go about shooting our on location senior pictures. The first is you can pick the location. We will send you a link with lots of cool ideas for photography locations with looks such as urban, vintage, classical, contemporary, basic and colorful, chic, organic, rustic etc. OR or Second, we plan a shoot for you. You name the look you want and we plan the locations etc that fit you. The choices are: Rock It, Grunge It, Glam It, Love It, Live It. Ask for details.
We shoot unique portraiture. We move around, have fun, and live it up. Rebecca is all about capturing those true personality and we do just that in a fun way.

A typical full wedding day covered by us will have around 1000 images. A typcial portrait session will end up with about 75+ images.
